C'est désormais un des cinq plus grands laboratoires hospitaliers universitaires en Europe. Si la genèse de ce projet remonte aux années 90, c'est en 2008 qu'Iris-Faîtière adopte la décision de principe de créer un laboratoire de biologie clinique commun à tout son réseau. L'objectif est d'améliorer l'efficacité et donc la qualité des analyses.
